In 2009, the Delaware County CKF coalition completed 714 Hoosier Healthwise applications, 1,787 Healthy Indiana Plan application, and enrolled 1,586 applicants into the local assistance program Cardinal Access.
The Delaware County lead agency, Open Doo Health Services also began providing assistance with other state program applicants in 2009, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), food stamps, and Medicaid programs other than Hoosier Healthwise. This has allowed the coalition to help applicants in obtaining the assistance they need in many areas, not just health coverage.
CKF of Delaware County has always worked closely with all of the Managed Care Organizaions. One example of this close partnership is between MDwise and Delaware County. In order to lower the number of people mistakenly taken off Hoosier Healthwise, MDwise and Open Door are teaming together through the redetermination process. This will reduce the amount of turnover and ensure better, more continuous health care benefits.
In the year 2009, the local coalition also began analyzing how word was spread about the services provided. Due to the econominc turndown and the high number of people who were newly eligible for assistance, but not familiar with the programs available, it was decided that Delaware County to work to reach a new population. This was donde in two different methods: a billboard on the main Muncie thoroughfare and a twice-weekly news sponsorship on one of East Central Indiana’s most listened to radion state.
